2016 sertoma Chili Winners
With temperatures nearing 70 degrees, it didn't feel like chili weather on Saturday, but more than 8,000 people still attended the 35th Annual Sertoma Chili Cook-Off at the Springfield Expo Center.
In addition to filling bellies, the event also raised more than $125,000 for Boys and Girls Club of Springfield, according to a news release from the chili cook-off organizers.

Trophy winners in 2008 were Carol Jones Realty for Best in Show; Springfield Fire Fighters Local #152 for Showmanship, Cody’s Convenience Stores for Best Booth; Ferrell Duncan Clinic for Best Costume. The Grand Champion chili was cooked by the News Leader, and Texas Roadhouse took the chili prize for restaurants.
Top fund-raisers were Mr. T and McAlisters, Business to Business, Cody’s Convenience Stores, Ferrell Duncan, Fed-Ex Freight and the Lone Star Restaurant. Those awards were for raising contributions in appreciation for particularly good chili.
2007 sertoma Chili Winners
The 2007 big trophy winners were: Best in Show, Associated Electric Cooperatives; Best Booth, Carol Jones Realty; Best Costume, Reliable Chevrolet; Showmanship, Springfield Firefighters. Great Southern Bank cooked the Champion Chili, as judged by professional chefs. And the Texas Roadhouse was first in the restaurant division.
The Peoples’ Choice Award goes to teams that raise the most money in donations in appreciation for particularly good chili, or for fund raising efforts. Price Cutter won Peoples’ Choice for corporate entries with $28,000 in its donation fish bowl. Gene Taft, in conjunction with McAlisters, won in the Individual Division; Springfield Business to Business won for group entries; Commerce Bank was first in the business division and T-Mobile won among the corporate sponsors.
